I'm gonna go with the 3 foot rule, because from what dimensions I
could find (not the J, but earlier versions) the 1/6th scale would be
like 2.5 feet. Being my first tank I would like to get as much room as
I can. I don't know if the dimensions I have found are correct. I have
found several different sets. I did find one that provided a track
width of 11.8 inches.

I guess I should find out who those 2 crazy brothers are and see if
they got the correct dimensions.
