Chris: Yah, theres a slot for the rubber pad. I am thinking it would be easy to scrape the rubber off, if it wasnt in a slot. There is 12 different operations to make a single track segment, 320 track segments times 12 operations = 3840 individual operations. 1 cut to length 2 face one end square in the mill 3 face the other end square in the mill 4, 5, 6, 7, drill in 3/4 inch from each corrner (you cant drill all the way through - the hole is too deep) 8 cut the rubber pad slot. 9, 10 cut the edge bevels. 11 cut and glue in the rubber pad. 12 trim and bevel each end of the rubber pad in the belt sander.
It takes about 7 minutes to build one of the track segments. I think Iam getting carpel tunnel. I hope the finished track is durable. This whole thing is an experiment. I chose a soft rubber (60 durometer), and it really grips. If I drag it across the floor, it generates a lot of drag force.
