Hi Chris,
Just so you know...
Without trying to make it sound too complex, Aluminum is NOT always just
Aluminum...
It really depends on what the intended use is as to what type aluminum you need.

For example:
5052 Aluminum might be a fairly soft or malleable metal... I'm not sure, I'm
not
familiar with it, but it would be my guess that it is not intended for anything
structural in nature. As is 6061 Aluminum...

2024 on the other hand is a widely used type Aluminum that is easy to form into
desired shapes and then usually heat treated once formed.

7075 Aluminum is probably the hardest and least malleable type, but is very
strong.

In the end, the numbers indicate what the alloy of the aluminum is...
What they may or may not tell you (and is equally important) is the "T"
(Temper)
number of the aluminum...
7075-T6 for example, is very hard and stiff were as 2024-T3 is not as stiff and
can take more of a bend, and anything with a "0" has no stiffness to it at
all... Usually used to fabricate parts that are going to be heat treated.

I hope this helps,

Kelly

Subject: [TANKS] aluminum is aluminum is aluminum or is it?

okay, stopped by the local metal shop and checked on a piece of 1/4" aluminum
plate 1' x 1' just to get an idea on price. he told me $25.00 per ....... might
take me a bit longer to make my trany with them prices....

so i just started looking online and have seen a few different listings for
aluminum plate. some are listed as:

cast aluminum tool plate

mic-6 cast aluminum tool plate

aluminum plate 5052

are they all the same but just listing only part of it's name or discription?
