I did the rubber pipe bit for a tyre, except it is on steel wheels which I made
from laser cut components, have a look at this thread:

http://groups.google.com/group/rctankcombat/browse_thread/thread/5480417dfa38be2e/45e56ecef73a9252?lnk=gst&q=steel+wheels#

the rubber is glued on with epoxy, but I don't think it's going to be strong
enough to handle the abuse of being hit by guide teeth etc, if I did it again I
would build a small lip into the wheel to hold the tyre on, just like a car
wheel.

Subject: [TANKS] road wheel source

Modern tanks have very similar looking road wheels. Some WWII tanks have this
kind of wheel too, such as the Cromwell. If I were to make this kind of wheel,
I would probably cut off a section of PVC pipe and fill the interior with a
plug cut out of wood. I would put a section of rubber pipe around the outside,
assuming I could get matching diameters. I would add some details like a ring
of simulated bolt heads. I would prefer to buy something that looks close. Does
anyone have suggestions for a source for wheels that are the closest in looks
to that kind of wheel? Some caster wheels that I've found are not bad, but not
great either.
