The trade off is always going to be speed vs torq. You could gear your tank to go fast, but will you have enough torq to do a standing turn on any surface? Or climb a 45 degree incline? In the real world, they could just add another transmission with extra gears, but in reality it would make a tank that is just too fast for the groups intended purpose (paintball battles). The group seems to be geared toward the beginner when building comes to mind, and your free to make adjustments to meet your own personal goals and engineer it the way you want it.
