I'm looking at a much smaller router, and I'm looking at building it
myself. I'm focusing on micromanufacturing for my career, and so the
experience building the machine is a big deal. I also have an
interest in resilient communities, which does tie in.

I'm planning on doing this for profit, but that also means I don't
have too much trouble shipping all over.

>From what I've read, I'd be surprised a machine like that can do
aluminum easily. I'm looking at using HDPE for parts, half inch sheet
would make good tracks I believe. Rubber padded tracks would be
available, but I think HDPE pads would be preferable, since they're a
bit slicker and would allow sliding during turns easier. The small
design I'm looking at has done aluminum before, but I'd wait to see
how mine does before promising that.
