Hay Chris

The turret on the Abram's is huge, easily two thirds the size of the hull,
to see it on the base have a look at my blog
(http://spudnik1970.blogspot.co.nz/) there's a few pics of it being sized up
on the hull J

The hole at the end was not needed, the unit is made of three layers, the
centre piece which the rack and pinion is all cut from 10mm Aluminium, then
the side plate that is closest to the hull is also 10mm, The spring is 28mm
diameter so it needed to be 15mm out from the hull so the spring would not
bind, from all my testing the 10mm centre is well strong enough to hold the
spring pressure and it also means there is not as much wastage of material
just to run up the side of the spring. Finally there is a 5-6mm mild steel
inner plate that allows for it to be tapped so the bolts can go from the
outside of the tank and thread into it and hold it against the side walls.

The small holes are for smaller bolts that allow you to hold the units
together before installation into the sidewall

As you can see from this picture I am trying to use as much material as
possible without lots of wastage

I will be looking at making these to size for people if wanted along with
also flat packs of the tank itself if there is interest, the down side is
shipping from way down here might make it not cost affective J

just started looking at your turret and it just looks monstrous sitting
there....... until you see the bottle of coke giving it a better sense of
size (still looks huge)

on your suspension, why did you remove the mounting hole at the end of the
spring? i would have thought that would have been a necessity as it would
have help strength wise with the spring always applying pressure to that end
- looks cool! i think you should market it, making a few variations of it
(spring/tension/weight wise, nothing else) as i'm sure they would be
sold/bought
