Japanese tanks were horrible, even all the way up through the end of WW2, 
mostly because of the jungle warfare that Japan mostly did. Japan deployed 
some tanks in China, with limited success, mostly because china had few if 
any tanks. 
 
This tank looks like post 1920 era, but its the first one like it that I 
have seen. It only has a machine gun, which was typical of early Japanese 
tanks. Most likely this was a prototype of some sort.
