Chris,

To answer your questions:

first, how did the Talon's hold up? did they ever overheat or show any kind
of problems? (and anyone that's also been using them) and how were you
powering it/them? i see you have on the page you had 12 volt batteries but i
didn't see if you were running 12 or 24 volt and what amperage

First, T087 runs on 24V, x2 12V batteries in series. The Talon are directly
powered to the batteries. No problems with the Talon SR. However, I did not
check overheating after each combat. FYI, the outfit in Michigan who
installed the control system blew my Sabertooth dual controller for the
rotation/elevation motors. So they replaced it with two more Talon SR. They
are located on the side hull.

looking at the last picture on page 2 it looks like that tracks are showing
a bit of wear all ready, about how much run time do you think they had by
the time that picture was taken?

T087 tracks are the standard FOA Static Tiger tracks. Amazingly, they held
up like a champion! I have NEVER broken a link. Those tracks and pins are
ABS injection molded plastic right here in Utah. I would not worry about the
wear. The only part that wore are the "ice cleats". They are about 0.026"
tall. There is 0.16" of plastic underneath them, across the entire track
width - the surface ratio between cleats/track below cleats is 34! The wear
most likely happened in Utah and Michigan, where the tank was tested on
asphalt and concrete. I would not worry about wear in the woods. I ran the
ABS Tiger prototype for about 6 miles.

i do like the turret sprocket as well and would like to know more about it
(mainly like that smaller geared motor vs the wiper motor and chain mine
has). now it the geared motor on a tension spring to handle any off-set in
the mounting of the ring gear?

The turret has an ABS ring mounted on a standard 12" lazy Susan. The small
pinion is also ABS, but is sandwiched between two laser-cut plates, fitting
into the motor flattened shaft. The motor mount is spring loaded since the
Tiger has a long barrel and we don't want to hit a tree at full speed! That
ABS gear ring is being redesigned because the teeth have some play with the
small pinion and create a slight hesitation on the rotation

does that say Eastwood in there, as in automotive material? and what is
that? at first i thought you had added some additional aluminum plating to
the inside of the hull

The Eastwood Thermo Coustic self-adhesive plates are used in the car
industry to sound proof your vehicle. They have incredible ability to "kill
vibration". FOA tanks are in metal. I can't stand a "rattling" tank. It
should make some noise, but not like a rattlesnake!!

Cheers from Utah

Loic

chris
