Yes the rack and pinion are cut from a single piece of 10mm, there's pics and 
video of it bent cut as well.

well, that is very different from the one I remember.  and the price is 
quite reasonable if it includes all that.  wish I could remember more about 
it, iirc it was supposedly cut out all at once, with a couple of pieces of 
sheet on the sides to hold the innards in.  i think it was a rack and 
pinion--the rack is up against a spring and the swing axle goes through the 
pinion.  pretty simple.
