i don't know why, but this the first thing that came to mind was something more like a piece of personal medical equipment such as something to carry a seated person (but i could be wrong) around and could go up and down steps are these modern pitched steps or older, possibly steeper steps? is this being built for narrow steps or standard width steps? what kind of ground contact (12" run? 18" run?) will this vehicle's tracks have? what's the overall length of this vehicle? (just thinking of it's tipping point when it first tilts downward onto the steps? with this have any kind of suspension or will it have fixed road wheels? you do realize that when you first attempt to take this thing up a set of steps, depending on your design, you may need to add some sort of a glide (not sure what to call it) that would have to go between the sprocket/idler wheel and the first road wheel (unless your going to do something like a Tiger with very large road wheels - about 12" tall) as your tracks will want to (give) push back in (possibly bottoming out on the body of this thing, but also causing some serious stress on the tracks) when it should have some sort of support behind it so the vehicle can start to climb. chris In a message dated 4/21/2014 12:00:17 P.M. Hello Maniac08, a few questions - Does your robot not need to be able to go "up" the stairs ? 5 mph down stairs sounds fast to me, these stairs arnt going to last.. Does your robot have to be tracked ? Is the 300lbs load in addition to the robots weight including battery ? $400.00 is a tight budget. is that for the entire robot ? If you can get hold of an old treadmill belt and some quality hardwood, I would recommend building a "TTS". Study all the tanks on the list with TTS , build yourself a jig of some kind, the result can be a high quality track for almost free. keep closely in touch with this forum. best of luck.
