Good to be back. Thanks for the warm welcomes. :-) Doug... yeah the R PI's are cute. I don't think I would use one for movement or fire control but I can think of a few other uses, tho. Yes, I bought most of the "new" stuff for a new tank build. Figure if I have the stuff sitting there, my OCD will kick in and I'll *** HAVE TO *** build. :-)
Neil... I looked at a USB stepper motor controller hooked up to a PI. My buddy is a pretty good (freaking amazing) PERL programmer and he had it responding to to commands in short order. That might be the path forward. Didn't play with it enough. As I said, I don't think I would want to use a PI for movement or fire control but... I was thinking more along the lines of on board controls for monitoring vehicle performance and peripherals like : Temperature sensors - on motors, electronics, internal cabin temp overall, etc. Auto start fans on heat sinks, external ventilation. Over temp warnings, and so forth. Battery monitor - main batt and aux batt. Send alerts to your phone<? Maybe> Mobile WiFi Hot spot - allows generic login to view cameras (see next line - hmmm may have to rethink security on this). Zone Minder - run a couple of web cams front, back, and gun cam. Could get some great video and sound. Ammo counter... send alert when you are getting low. Maybe send alert to resupply vehicle? Track hits on vehicle? This requires a lot more thought. It may be possible but not feasible. ...and whatever else my twisted little mind can come up with. The think tank at CARD has mulled this over a hearty brown beverage or two. :-) Hey Bob... thanks. :-) I was looking at your Grizzly on RCTANK site. Very nice. -Cheers Fred -- -- You are currently subscribed to the "R/C Tank Combat" group.
