I don't know about the current and near-future grads, but I can tell you that it is getting harder and harder to get the current practicing catalogers to come to AACR continuing ed. I keep hearing that it is not that they do not want to come, but that their administrators do not want to send them. This is for a variety of reasons, including the "good enough" philosophy that they (Admin folks) are increasingly buying into; but I also believe it is because they are asking why their existing staff should learn 'old' rules at this late stage, when new 'rules' are coming. > I suppose RDA is too verbose for you to come out with an RDA > version of your handy dandy binder? Thank you for the kind words, but I am still undecided about whether I will be doing an updated version of "Cataloging with AACR2 and MARC21" as "Cataloging with RDA and MARC21". I hope I will not have to, because I would far rather see a software solution that would allow catalogers to enter RDA data elements in a nicely designed form (NOT a raw XML document) and have MARC21 records created magically--ISBD punctuation, order of data, links to Registry terms and all; with options for turning off the things you don't want carried over into your M21 records. With all of that stuff handled by software (that we can trust), we will then be able to turn our minds to explaining and teaching the RDA approach to bibliographic information, especially its increased emphasis on discovering and indicating relationships between things. So far, I am still not hearing that these data entry forms are going to be made available from any of the 'official' sites.
