Quoting Gene Fieg <[email protected]>:

And since RDA is supposed to help us get on board with the Semantic Web,
could someone give me an example of a record that is already on the Semantic
Web? Where is it? How does one find it?

There are big chunks of library data that have been expressed in SemWeb formats which you can find at:

http://ckan.net/group/bibliographic

Unfortunately, without downloading huge amounts of data there's nothing for humans to see. Sometimes the documentation for the projects gives examples.

You can see individual records in RDF from the Open Library. There is RDF (the SEmWEb data format) for Works, Authors, and Editions (the latter being a kind of combination of Expression and Manifestation). HEre's how you see those:

Author:

Author URL: http://openlibrary.org/authors/OL39307A/Dan_Brown
RDF: http://openlibrary.org/authors/OL39307A.rdf

Work:
work url: http://openlibrary.org/works/OL76837W/The_Da_Vinci_code
RDF: http://openlibrary.org/works/OL76837W.rdf

Edition:
Edition url: http://openlibrary.org/books/OL23247061M/The_Da_Vinci_code
RDF: http://openlibrary.org/books/OL23247061M.rdf

From this I think you can see the pattern for getting any ones you want.

Since these are all in RDF/XML you may need to view source or download the result in order to see the rdf -- it depends on your browser and what it does with XML.

There are some "cataloger use cases" that have SemWeb/RDA examples on the DCMI/RDA Working Group wiki:

http://dublincore.org/dcmirdataskgroup/Scenarios

Click on the link that looks like "Scenarios/1" by each scenario and you will see an encoded form of the record.

We did these AGES ago, and are about to go back and edit them since the RDA data elements weren't "cooked" yet. But I think the general idea doesn't change.

I'm also working on developing a small database of records for some tests that people are interested in doing. These will be somewhat minimal records (because that's the only way to make it a reasonable task) and the data will be taken from MARC records. If anything comes out of that that is human-readable, I'll definitely make it available.
