Bernhard did an excellent job pointing out lacuna in the LJ article, but he did not mention the statement I found most irritating. The author maintains (as have many) that RDA is better than AACR2 for newer media. Our experience experimenting with RDA at SLC is that not only is it worse for newer media, it is even worse for some media which has long been with us, e.g., large print and kits. The excuse that icons or local usage terms will replace the difficult to understand media terms just doesn't work for me. Why not use terms patrons can understand in the first place? What about the clear majority who want to retain GMDs, which Jean Riddle Weish discovered in her survey, and the results of the test confirmed? As Bernhard said, the JSC does not seem to be listening. __ __ J.
