That should work, but the problem seems to have something to do with the way your OS treats sockets and extended attributes. Suppose you have a socket file at /path/sock. Try: cp -a /path/sock socket_test getfattr socket_test Anyway if your this raises an error I think the problem is your OS. You could avoid the problem by disabling extended attributes, or excluding sockets like Dean suggested. -- Ben Escoto
