Hi Andreas,
It sure looks to me like rdiff-backup never properly handled the case
where hard links were unsupported on the destination filesystem.
Fortunately, it was a 2-line fix in CVS to make it do so. It can now
restore hard links even when the backup is stored on, say, an sshfs
filesystem.
