Rdiff-backup's cousin Duplicity has S3 support. Depending on which features of rdiff-backup you use, Greg, it may or may not work for you:

I have no idea how involved it would be to add S3 support (or port the support from Duplicity), but patches are welcome and I can try to answer questions.
