Ron, I'm not answering your question, as I see Thomas has already done a good job. ;-)
I'm the "official" maintainer on rdiff-backup now, but it doesn't mean I do a lot (super busy with paid work)... But there's a specific question I'd like to ask you. Not long ago, the rdiff-backup website was very confusing, covered with broken links, and it was difficult to find this mailing list, difficult to join, read, post. I made some efforts to clean it all up, and I'd like to know what your experience was like. Were you able to find all the information you wanted easily? Were you able to join this mailing list easily? Have you read the man page, or the FAQ? (The FAQ, in particular, is extremely helpful.) But by the looks of your question, I'm guessing you already know that. ;-) > -----Original Message----- > From: rdiff-backup-users-bounces+rdiff- > backup=nedharvey....@nongnu.org [mailto:rdiff-backup-users- > bounces+rdiff-backup=nedharvey....@nongnu.org] On Behalf Of ron89 > Sent: Wednesday, November 06, 2013 11:54 AM > To: rdiff-backup-users@nongnu.org > Subject: [rdiff-backup-users] New rdiff user at a loss > > I got thrown into this and I am basically a Linux novice I am used to other > backups solutions such as symantec, veeam, and vranger. > > before my time here this was and is the current setup Backups run from > location A over ssh to Location B 800 miles away. > > I want to restore a backup from Location B to location A to verify it works. > > I have built a new Centos 6.4 vm and installed rdiff. from my readings this > seems to be the correct restore command "rdiff-backup -r now > rob.as...@182.16x.xx.xx::/data/bl1/bl1 /rdiff-backup-data" I assume this is > where the data is kept but I am not positive. below i get the following error, > all other folders give me "could not find rdiff-backup repository" > > What does this the below error mean any input would be grateful so I can > complete the full restore. > > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > ------------------------------------------------------- > rdiff-backup -r now rob.as...@182.16x.xx.xx::/data/bl1/bl1 /rdiff-backup- > data > rob.as...@182.16x.xxx.xxx's password: > > Exception '[Errno 13] Permission denied: '/data/bl1/bl1'' raised of class > '<type > 'exceptions.OSError'>': > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/Main.py", line 304, in > error_check_Main > try: Main(arglist) > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/Main.py", line 321, in > Main > rps = map(SetConnections.cmdpair2rp, cmdpairs) > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/SetConnections.py", > line 78, in cmdpair2rp > return rpath.RPath(conn, filename).normalize() > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/rpath.py", line 884, > in __init__ > else: self.setdata() > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/rpath.py", line 908, > in setdata > self.data = self.conn.rpath.make_file_dict(self.path) > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/connection.py", line > 450, in __call__ > return apply(self.connection.reval, (self.name,) + args) > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/connection.py", line > 370, in reval > if isinstance(result, Exception): raise result > > Traceback (most recent call last): > File "/usr/bin/rdiff-backup", line 30, in <module> > rdiff_backup.Main.error_check_Main(sys.argv[1:]) > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/Main.py", line 304, in > error_check_Main > try: Main(arglist) > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/Main.py", line 321, in > Main > rps = map(SetConnections.cmdpair2rp, cmdpairs) > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/SetConnections.py", > line 78, in cmdpair2rp > return rpath.RPath(conn, filename).normalize() > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/rpath.py", line 884, > in __init__ > else: self.setdata() > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/rpath.py", line 908, > in setdata > self.data = self.conn.rpath.make_file_dict(self.path) > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/connection.py", line > 450, in __call__ > return apply(self.connection.reval, (self.name,) + args) > File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/connection.py", line > 370, in reval > if isinstance(result, Exception): raise result > OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/data/bl1/bl1' > [root@localhost ~]# Fatal Error: Lost connection to the remote system > > +---------------------------------------------------------------------- > |This was sent by ronald.afr...@brooklaw.edu via Backup Central. > |Forward SPAM to ab...@backupcentral.com. > +---------------------------------------------------------------------- > > > > _______________________________________________ > rdiff-backup-users mailing list at rdiff-backup-users@nongnu.org > https://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/rdiff-backup-users > Wiki URL: http://rdiff- > backup.solutionsfirst.com.au/index.php/RdiffBackupWiki _______________________________________________ rdiff-backup-users mailing list at rdiff-backup-users@nongnu.org https://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/rdiff-backup-users Wiki URL: http://rdiff-backup.solutionsfirst.com.au/index.php/RdiffBackupWiki
