The question could be relevant because rdiff-backup-delete opens "*.gz" files, 
drops
history information and creates new "*,gz" files which will have a more recent 
time-stamp.
Will there be a conflict with respect to the window-size?
Could you also add your answer to the official rdiff-backup documentation.

The relevant date for files in rdiff-backup-data is the date that is part of the file 
name, e.g. "mirror_metadata.2022-06-15T21:08:20-05:00.snapshot.gz". The 
modification time for that file is irrelevant.
