I'm using btrfs with rdiff-backup, and I have used f2fs. Both work
flawlessly.

btrfs can be a big pain if you forget to properly unmount the drive.
It's much less forgiving than ext4.

AFAIK rdiff-backup has never worked with exFAT.

Given that rdiff-backup uses checksums for the file contents anyway,
Cromagnon-era filesystems without much overhead (journaling, filesystem
checksumming...) could be a good idea.
