Yes I had noticed this behaviour also (my original post was poorly put
together and with missing details - sorry).
I put it in the bug tracker for you.
As an aside :- Postgres is good at using multiple cores on multiple
connections of the DB, but it is unable to use multiple cores on the same
query... which is annoying since I have 8 cores and the query is cpu bound
(100% usage for minutes on one cpu). I guess I will write a distributor as
you suggested.
