It is an 8.4. And unless they add a parallel installable 9.x, this will be there for the whole support lifecycle of the EL6, that is, until 2020. Given we are talking about a 3 years old product and there are no newer release (IIRC RHEL 7 is in beta right now), I doubt anyone on RHEL have a chance to use newer versions.
