Just a quick one here since it seems like the rest of this is cleared up:
the new rendering code is definitely accessible from python. It's just
written in C++ instead of being written in python. The initial version was
in the last RDKit release (described here using python examples:
http://rdkit.blogspot.ch/2015/02/new-drawing-code.html but also in the
standard documentation) and will be improved in the next release. The
notebook I linked to earlier also had some info about the new rendering.
