One concern I might have is the discoverability of the GitHub release page.
The SourceForge page is nicely titled "RDKit download" and is still in the
top few hits on both the Google and Bing searches for rdkit. The
SourceForge page does indicate that things have moved to GitHub, which but
it isn't as convenient as the big green download button there. Particularly
as the link is to the https://github.com/rdkit/rdkit front page, and not to
the releases. Also, it isn't really clear where to download the release
version sources from the GitHub README - it's somewhat hidden under an
entry nominally about Windows binaries.
The http://www.rdkit.org/ site also prominently lists the SourceForge
download page, but apparently doesn't directly link the GitHub one. (Or,
for that matter, indicate that SourceForge is deprecated in favor of
GitHub.) The online documentation (e.g.
http://www.rdkit.org/docs/Install.html) also doesn't make the download
location all that clear. It's there, but it's somewhat buried, and the
section with the wget command to fetch the source gives little indication
of how to find out which filenames are valid. Something like an "Obtaining
RDKit" section might be helpful.
Adding the new release to SourceForge is probably not necessary, but you
may want to make clearer pointers to the GitHub releases page for those
approaching things with a "I just want to download the latest release"
mindset.
