I 2nd Jay here. Stick with the Inverter based genny's and eco-throttle like the
Honda and Yamaha for back-up only applications. I average 40 hrs/year on genny
back up and my 1st 3600 rpm 3kW Kohler "screamer" last 10 years and cost $400.
My next was a 3.5kW Makita "screamer" that lasted 12 years. I'm now about 4
years into a Honda 3000Ui and love how quiet it is and the wife loves the
electric start (original starting battery still). These 3600rpm units typically
last 500-700 hours with regular oil changes, do the math and decide if it makes
sense for your application. Sound levels mean a lot to me, my customers and
everyones neighbors and should always be considered when making a genny
purchase and installation.
