I would normally agree that it would take a very large solar array and large battery bank to run an AC unit off of solar power. However, when doing some research several months ago for a new article I found a small company that was designing and building their own 24 VDC powered super-efficient heat pumps they were installing in tractor trailer trucks.
When I tried to get more technical information from this company like amp load, battery size, solar array size, they would not provide this and basically said they do this as a package deal, and they insist their heat pump will both heat or cool a cab with a small solar array.
Yes, I understand the laws of thermodynamics and am also skeptical of their claims, but they seem to be selling lots of these custom installations and have a YouTube video that shows an installation. Since it also shows the solar module installation on the roof air deflector, I thought you might check it out. If anyone on this list is near the location of this company, I think we all would be interested in the results of a visit, as they have told me they also have a unit designed for off-grid solar heating and air conditioning of small rooms.
Thanks,
Jeff Yago
