Hi Dana

Two of my contacts within EnerSys have just told me that they have never
seen a 2 volt load tester.

Steve Willy of Backwoods Solar showed me that if I took a 1200 watt 120 volt
space hearer and cut the element into 10 equal lengths wired in parallel
across buss bars I would have a 12 volt 1200 watt heater. I switched each
element so I could increase or decrease load. I had to install muffin fans
because the element would get much longer when hot than cold. Eventually I
built several of these heaters into a small rolling tool box with a
trimetric, trailer lights, and even a reading lamp so I could take readings
without powering up the shop lights. I used it for load testing the surplus
AGM batteries that we sold years ago. Funny, I can't remember what happened
to that load bank.

If you were to cut that same heating element into 60 equal lengths you would
have a 2 volt 1200 watt heater. I found that the ribbon type of element was
easier to work with vs. the coil type. These heaters are cheap in second
hand stores..especially in the summer.

Do you have a source on a 2 volt load tester?

Why not just make one yourself? Ohm's law and all that good stuff. You
could even make a configurable load bank like the utility switch gear
testers I've seen use. They all look homemade to me.

Just label it clearly because if someone puts it on a 12v battery you could
have a 1000 amp load tester for a second or two anyway.

Best,

Does anyone have knowledge of a 2 volt battery cell load tester? 12 volt we
have and have not been able to find a 2 volt tester.
