I have a number of these Magnum sine wave inverters (various models) out in locations where the inverter undoubtedly gets very cold at times.  I do not know if this matters, but all of my Magnum inverters have a "remote" as part of the installation, even if it is usually right there.  Last week, for an absentee owner, I went out on-site where AC electricians worked on the AC distribution. The Magnum MS AE 240V in an unheated power shed, as well as myself, were very cold by the time they were done. It restarted from the remote with no problem.
Until reading John's question I had forgotten that one time I tried to start my own Magnum in my workshop (which is only sometimes heated by wood) from the little button, and it did not start.  I had the remote unhooked for some reason. I plugged it in, and the inverter started from the remote. I never gave it another thought.
I also would be curious about similar serial number and manufactures dates as Warren has pointed out, hope this helps. These have been very good inverters for us in many applications. My home system has a pair of OutBack FXs.

That is a problem we have not seen before with those inverters, though not unheard of with electronics in general. From my experience it is usually due to an electrolytic capacitor being out of spec (or wrong one)., but can also be from some solid state component, or even the main processor or ROM being out of spec for temperature.

I would be curious if the inverters are all similar serial numbers and when they were manufactured.

HAS ANYONE HAD GOOD LUCK WITH THIS MODEL IN A COLD ENVIRONMENT OR STARTING PROBLEMS AT ANY TEMPERATURE?
