Wrenches,
For Wrenches who do the occasional DC hydronic or battery-based SDHW control:
Here's a reference to a product that can handle one- or two-stage remote temperature setpoint control, and it's readily available at a reasonable price.

Ranco makes a line of standard commercial remote-bulb setpoint controllers for refrigeration and similar apps. They're available in single-stage (like the defunct GoldLine SP30) and two-stage (like the SP300), with a variety of input voltages. The 24VAC models work fine on 24VDC as well.

These are available through Grainger.com. It's under $100, has a 1/2" KO and a digital temperature display. The 3ZP79 single-stage setpoint controller has this description:
Electronic Temperature Control, Input Voltage 24 Volts, Switch Action SPDT, Sensor Thermistor, 2 Inches Long, 1/4 Inch Diameter, 8 Feet Cable, Set Point Range -30 to 220 Degrees Fahrenheit, 0-10 Volts Output No, Ambient Humidity Range 0 to 95% RH, Noncondensing, Differential Range 1 to 30 Degrees Fahrenheit, Enclosure NEMA 1, Number of Stages 1, Length 2 Inches, Height 6.52 Inches, Depth 2.48 Inches, Width 2.7 Inches
The two-stage version is the 3ZP84, at under $160.

The Grainger listing doesn't specify AC or DC, but the box and instructions call out only 24VAC. When I called the manufacturer's tech support line, the man informed me that it wasn't designed to work on DC, and it was in violation of its intended use. OK, so I tried it. It works fine. I'm using it to send a temperature-based call for backup boiler heat for the sidearm DHW tank on my DC hydronic home heating control system.

Someone out there can use this info...
