Hi Jeff, There is no doubt that aluminum will stand the test of time better in a marine environment than galvanized steel. The galv. will show rust in an amazingly short time. We have had DP&W marine grade aluminum mounts within 50 feet of the water in the Bahamas installed now for more than ten years and still have good ground and attachment. I have to say, I'm hoping I never have to remove the ss hardware. I suspect I'll have to break the bolts to get them off. None of the aluminum mounts we've used have been painted. I believe it is all anodized. Steel pipe will rust very fast there. Use as much ss/concrete/marine grade aluminum and as little steel, even galvanized, as possible, none if possible. I haven't seen even one panel frame or rack turn black. They do get dull, but definitely retain there aluminum look.
