Wrenches:
Bill Loesch had commented on the lack of any "official" response from NABCEP on the recent thread. I forwarded this message and thread to Ezra Auerbach; his response to the list is below.

Hello Wrenches,
I have asked my friend Allan Sindelar to post a note from me. NABCEP is not allowed to post on the Wrenches forum and as such we rely upon and appreciate the comments and clarifications that are offered by our Board Directors and volunteers like Andrew, Allan and Bob-O. In the past few days comments posted by Allan and Andrew have been accurate and reflect more or less exactly what I would have said.

I can add a few additional notes. There is indeed a significant focus in the job task analysis for PV Installer on reviewing and adapting the system design. Individuals that hold this certification are expected to be the "go-to" person on the installation crew and as such they are expected to be able to identify any issues with the PV system design presented to them and, when possible, adapt them accordingly.  Mistakes sometimes happen upstream in the design process; a string may be sized wrong for the location, or the design may call for row, placement that causes significant shading later in the year, or "fill in the blank as you all have horror stories of faulty designs being presented to you for installation".  The UL credential does not focus nearly as heavily on system design, in fact their exam blueprint calls for 5% of the test to be on PV Basics (100% of our Entry Level exam covers PV basics).

As ever I welcome and respond to emails sent directly to me at NABCEP although Allan is correct in noting that I am away for the rest of June. Be well and work carefully.

Best regards,

Ezra
