Wrenches,
For years, Direct Power has sold used GNB Absolyte II sealed batteries, shipped in from Canada from telecom use. The batteries have a pretty good reputation - at least, I haven't heard of short remaining lifetimes from customers who have bought them.

We have a GTWB customer who opted to use a 1690 amp-hour 24V set of 3-100A33 in a Sunny Island-based GTWB system that we are to be installing soon. He had bought a set of these bad boys two years ago for a different project, and has stored them with periodic charge. We have to assume that this set is in good condition at present. The problem is that we need a second set to make 48V, and DP&W hasn't had them for well over a year, and has no expectation of if or when they may get them again.

Before I break this bad news to the customer, I'm doing due diligence on his behalf. Is anyone aware of another source for these batteries in similar condition?

Second related question: I know that we should never mix new batteries with old - that's PV101 stuff. But what about in this case? If we added a new 24V 1690 A/hr string in series with his used 24V 1690 A/hr strin, could we expect the cells to play well together? Would it be reasonable to predict that the entire single 48V string would perform as well as the older string?

Thank you,
Allan
