I've definitely found several AC only switches burned permanently into
the "ON" position, so its a real concern. We use surplus switches
removed from old houses that are DC rated. I got a collection from
Habitat Restore. They don't say AC only, and are very loud when
switched. Pull chain lamps are usually DC rated, so that's a very
simple solution. In line cord switches are DC rated, and I used to get
surface mount Barn type switches that were DC rated.
As others noted, LEDs have low enough current draw to not be as much of
a problem, but the old 50 watt incandescents pulled about 4 amps, and
definitely would burn AC switches.
I would never put my license and name on an install with such an obvious
code violation. (equipment not listed for the purpose)

I have been using AC only switches on my 12 and 24 volt lighting for 30 years
and they work fine.
Backwoods Solar has a good LED selection.

Hello,
I have a few hunting shacks coming up on the board so I've been searching for
DC LEDs to use. I Want to give the customers options for the tasks needed and
have spent hours searching online for products.
Any recommendations? I hate to purchase and be disappointed. Websites?
On that topic what are wrenches using for switching DC LEDs? I just have AC single-pole
switches in my fish house, despite them saying AC only! But I've not found a
"typical" single-pole, single-throw switch that is AC/DC rated or just DC
rated. I've found SPDT switches with AC/DC ratings.
Thanks as always,
Jesse
