I've had one for over 25 years. Only serviced a couple of times.
They were very expensive when I bought it, and the price has doubled.
They are supposedly some of the most efficient on salt.
In our case, with our extremely hard water, we use maybe 40lb/week.
You do need to (or at least ought to) use the purer pelletized salt.
