If you look at the bottom of the steel battery boxes they generally have drain holes in them!
They are intended to contain the battery cases not the electrolyte If you want to contain the electrolyte go to a sheet metal shop and have them build a case to set the battery case in Braze or silver solder all of the connections all the joints and they should be good.
