Hi Jay,

I had to deal with this once on a Trace SW system. The cheapest option turned out to be to just adding another inverter, not synchronized, on the third leg of the generator.

All loads were 120/240, so no need for 208. Commercial battery chargers were way expensive. The non synchronized inverter charged batteries just fine, and was used with a separate panel to feed a few tough loads that could have caused the lights to dim on surge. The three phase generator windings were reasonably well balanced with this setup.

If the client does not need three phase but has a three phase generator, you can rewire the alternator to single phase, or have it done by a generator tech.

Hi Guys,

Yes that could work, but then you wouldn't have genny backup, which isn't a good idea IMHO.

I'm still researching if the client really needs 3 phase or not.

thanks all,

jay

Are the loads three phase or just the generator?

Outback for sure but I have not seen the sw line work on 3 ph nore the SI's I will say OB work well. You may also want to consider a 3 ph battery charger and a regular l120/240 battery system just a thought On Jul 23, 2014 11:06 AM, "Jay Peltz" <<mailto:[email protected]>[email protected]> wrote:
Hi all

I have a client who
Might need 3 phase battery based inverters for 208/120 US 60 hz.Â
I believe the choices are: Â SI, XW( with reprogramming) and outback FX line.Â

This is not for motors, but running off of a 3 phase generator.Â

Anything I've missed?

PS thanks for all the comments as to my previous questions on batteries.Â
