We had an off grid client who did not want a wood fired heater or wood tub &
did a battery based circ pump (Dankoff) @ 24 vdc for the spa and propane
heaters about 30 ft away out of sight & it worked really well. Bought a hot tub
shell at a wholesaler in Denver, super insulated the 2” supply & return lines,
& created the controls at 24 VDC.

No blower or bubbles!

Subject: Re: [RE-wrenches] Chofu Hot Tub Heater

Snorkel or their Scuba. The Scuba is made for shallow 2 ft stock tanks. My 2
installations have been fine for a couple decades. No plumbing required. The
Chofu had a thermosiphon thing going on. For the Snorkels.I do use a
circulation pump a few minutes at a time-- just a submerisble bilge pump at
the bottom, otherwise you'll be out there with a canoe paddle eliminating
stratification, which (ahem) tends to make some body parts uncomfortably toasty
for a short period of time as one eases into the tub.

At some point I wish to put my Scuba in a small greenhouse to make it work
year-round, and pre-heat with a simple solar DHW system.

Wrenches,
I have an off grid client who wants a hot tub, and would prefer a propane
heater rather than wood. The Chofu appears to be the only unit that doesn't
require a circulation pump. He had located this on his own, but told me that
"The propane fired, self igniting, hydrosiphoning Chofu is no longer available
domestically. Seems the Japanese do not wish to export these to the USA
anymore. I will keep looking as this was the most sane idea for the project
and of course cheapest. Chofu listed on Island Hot Tub is currently
unavailable. I talked to him a week ago and it sounded like there was no
availability for the foreseeable future."

Does anyone have a line on where one can be located before they're all gone? Or
a good alternative?

Thanks, Allan
