Folks, The SMA installation manual is clear that the Multigate is an integral part of the micorinverter system and must be installed with the microinverters. It is clear that the Multigate is required to meter and monitor the microinverter system.
I would never advocate that anyone attempt to deviate from these manufacture instructions. However, I wonder if anyone has incidentally, momentarily, bypassed the connection through the Multigate and if so, did they observe whether or not the microinverters happened to export power to the AC system in this configuration?
