I'm hoping someone has some insight that can help me diagnose an issue and get this resolved as efficiently as possible.
The client (not my install) had a 516 and a 304 error on an IG5100. Upon reset it would run in the morning, then throw the 304 in the afternoon each day. No fan noise could be heard. Fronius replaced the inverter under warranty. The new (refurb) unit started up fine, but then the customer reported that it was showing the 304 error again. Day after day, reset after reset, he was never able to detect fan noise. Fronius asked me to go out and check if the fan cable was disconnected. It was not. We could not observe or detect the fan running ever. I'm into this for three trips already, and getting the cover off is a huge task since it was wired on the side knockouts. Side note: customer service rep [arrogantly] said that's why they recommend wiring from the bottom. A) I didn't wire it, and B) I didn't design it with the knockouts there! So not I am faced with two options: 1) Go out and do a bunch of diagnostics again and likely make yet another trip to replace parts or the entire inverter again, or 2) get another replacement and risk that the returned unit is a "no-fault replacement" and get charged for shipping and fees. I'm hoping that someone has been in this position and can help me decide what risk to take. Ultimately I can't keep going back over and over losing money on a system I didn't install in the first place. Thanks, Jason Szumlanski Florida Solar Design Group
