Wrenches,

I had asked here about the original Outback Mate's eventual failure of the buttons' responsiveness. Here's an update from Outback from about a month ago, in case others face the same issue:

Allan: Sorry for the slow response; we lost a few agents and are struggling to catch up. Unfortunately we no longer have repair parts for that product. Usually, problems with rubber membrane keypads like that are not related to dirt or oxidation, something that can be cleaned, but rather from the carbon puck material on the membrane wearing out. I have had some luck in the past using conductive paint as a repair strategy. You can Google "repairing membrane keypads" for ideas and products. I will be in our repair facility in two weeks, I'll look around and see if there are some parts laying around that might be helpful.  If I find something I will contact you.
Best regards,
Mark Walters

In addition, I learned from from Wrenches and Outback that the original Mate is still available through normal distributors.
