The original Powerwall 1 was DC coupled and there are quite few up here in the mountains running fine. They are much better in my opinion than the 400vdc LG. When LG failed with the 48v battery they made the 400v with the electronics limiting the problem of surge current. That current pulled from an xw load test is what killed the 48v model, over a year of testing.
