I'm taking a Mike Holt course on NEC 2020 changes for my license
renewal, and I just came across these changes in 408.18. They apply to
Switchboards and Switch gear, which the Outback GS Load center qualifies
as. The new requirements do not allow arrangements that require the
installer to reach across uninsulated, ungrounded terminals or busses in
order to make connections.
As has been brought up on this list before, the GS load center is a
nightmare to work in, with the main shunt, negative buss, and ground
buss buried behind layers of other equipment, including both ungrounded
AC and DC exposed breaker terminals.
I'm pretty sure they added this new code section to address equipment
just like this. Outback? are you finally going to fix this, and give us
a better load center to work with?
