Hey All,

I have been asked to design & install a solar backup system for a 20,000
sqft "home", autonomy requirements unknown at this time. I know. lets save
the jokes.

Many of you have confronted this issue with survivalist/realist types.
Probably 400-600 Amp utility service is present.

I generated this list with one of my engineers for the General Contractor to
consider:

* So there is no room for a ground mount in the back corner of the
property?
* If the house is in the design stage, is there any possibility for
them to leave one nice, south facing roof surface that solar could easily
attach to...?
* Is there a possibility for a 'man cave' to be included, for a 3-4
car garage for sports cars/boats/tractors/quads... and THAT could be a
standard roof surface where solar could easily attach...?
* How much roof space does he have for PV?
* How many broken up roof faces are there?
* What size system do you estimate can be put there?
* What is the size of his main panel? There are many systems out there
for 200A panels.... backing up 400A panels is problematic, unless you want
to install two 200A systems.
* Does he want to run his house during a grid outage even as if he is
still connected to the grid?
* If the grid went down how long does he want for autonomy?
* How is the house heated?
* Any large loads like Well Pumps, Electric Ovens and Cooktops,
electric dryers, electric water heater/on demand water heaters? Etc?
* Being involved in the design is integration of the house is
critical.
* Both were skeptical on the roof tiles in snow country, low elevation
desert is more the idea. I have an inquiry with Tesla on this point.
* How much AC, and do they get summer outages?

I was wondering if I could have a phone call & pick your mind as in:

What have you done?

What would you do differently next time?

Or would you do it the same again?

How much client input did you receive?

Please respond directly to my email. Thanks in advance.
