Interesting the variation in experiences. Most of my jobs are off-grid these days which almost always means a (reliable) well pump need.  I'd entertain the idea of 3-phase with VFD but that's quite a bit more  initial expense for this customer and possible higher long term costs with the VFD equipment?  Once again, the value of being transformer based (unlike the Sol-Ark) for surge.

Hi Bill,

I have yet to have an issue with the Sol Ark 12K and water pumps. We have numerous off-grid installations with 3/4 HP well pumps with no issues. I tend to find that compressors and inductive motor loads like chop saws are often an issue.

Hope this helps,

Chris

I’d look at a 3 phase pump with vfd/soft start control and
    eliminate the start surge.

recommendation for the largest 240V submersible well pump the
Sol-Ark 12KW inverter can start/run.  Assume 500 watt load prior
to starting the pump, static level of water in well is 75 feet,
system psi when it starts is 40.
