Kirk: I recently installed a Kohler RDT transfer switch that does exactly what you specified. The RDT is an AC-Seeking ATS. There is an option to create a contact closure upon failure of the primary AC input.
Even though the device is Kohler branded it has no proprietary connections to the genset- it is generator agnostic. The unit comes in several standard sizes. It can be ordered as service equipment and with or without on-board distribution. It’s a nice piece of kit. I can send the manual if you’d like.
