Thank you William. Though Hawaii has already gone down this path (mostly), HECO is not, to my knowledge, redoing existing NEM contracts. But now reading about California's path forward, I wonder if HECO is planning on doing this. Since PUC filings are lengthy and arduous to read and digest, understanding their plans is difficult.
Bed-side reading anybody? Ugh. Picking up a phone and speaking with a human to clarify these types of details has proven difficult. Different answers to the same question is normally how it has worked for me. Leading to more confusion. As much as it pains me, this topic and others in the solar industry (namely manufacturers placing an undue burden on us installers) are forcing us to evaluate adding other income streams that our license class allows us to perform. Namely straight up commercial and government electrical work, they seem to be simpler (no cutting edge equipment and janky software) with less surprises down the road, changing the economics of solar and most importantly they typically are not design-build. I realize this type of work has its own headaches but the scales are tipping in its favor as time marches on. I can't tell if I am just getting old and am tired of the constant changes to our industry or are the changes getting worse?
