Self-discharge (No Load) is typically around 1–2%, depending on temperature
and pack chemistry. Higher temperatures will accelerate this, but it
generally caps out at around 3-4% under worst-case conditions, usually
because the BMS shuts down the battery if temperatures get too high.

The bigger concern is prolonged exposure to temperatures above 45 °C. At
those temperatures, you will begin to lose overall cycle life, which can
cause pack swelling, even if the batteries are just sitting in storage.
Based on current observations, that loss can be up to roughly 2% of overall
cycle life per year when exposed to those elevated temperatures.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much comprehensive testing available yet. Right
now, we are conducting cold-weather testing to better understand how these
batteries are affected by low temperatures and what kind of long-term
damage cold exposure may cause. We’re seeing some preliminary results, but
complete data will likely take another 5–10 years to fully develop.

We are currently observing that LFP batteries start to degrade at
temperatures below about –5 °C. The impact seems to average around 1%
additional degradation per year in both cycle life and capacity at those
temperatures. Prolonged exposure to -20 °C and below, you can also see
swelling from electrolyte freezing.

One thing that is becoming increasingly clear through this testing is that
cell manufacturers’ published data often does not fully reflect real-world
performance, particularly in long-term environmental testing.
