In Florida, you can't get an interconnection agreement without a permitted
and inspected system. FPL would charge you for export (the
non-bidirectional meters only record absolute value, so they charge you for
export if you don't have a netmetering agreement). Our local co-op utility
would threaten to disconnect your power in 72 hours if one watt of power
leaks back to the grid and is detected by their smart meters.

And 1,200W is a drop in the bucket compared to typical energy use here, so it's
not going to make a noticeable dent in real electric bills.

The chatter about plug-in solar is abnormally high right now, in my
opinion. I know some states are passing legislation, and it seems there is
real consumer demand out there. But the practical benefits of this seem very
small.
