Here's my take: https://floridasolardesigngroup.com/is-plug-in-solar-safe-the-wiring-danger-that-marketing-will-not-tell-you-about
https://floridasolardesigngroup.com/are-plug-in-solar-panels-legal-in-florida-what-buyers-need-to-know In Florida, you can't get an interconnection agreement without a permitted and inspected system. FPL would charge you for export (the non-bidirectional meters only record absolute value, so they charge you for export if you don't have a netmetering agreement). Our local co-op utility would threaten to disconnect your power in 72 hours if one watt of power leaks back to the grid and is detected by their smart meters. And 1,200W is a drop in the bucket compared to typical energy use here, so it's not going to make a noticeable dent in real electric bills. The chatter about plug-in solar is abnormally high right now, in my opinion. I know some states are passing legislation, and it seems there is real consumer demand out there. But the practical benefits of this seem very small.
