I never liked the original SW5548. It had different firmware and actually can't surge as much as an SW4048. The 5548 does have a very heavy transformer, so they would be good for a heavy continuous load that didn't surge much on startup.  They're hard to put up on a wall.

I don't know anything about the SW+, I had switched to Outback back then.    Did you read in the SW+ manual that it could be stacked with the SW?  Unless they designed that into it, I'm guessing they wouldn't stack.
